I have dreamt about my own Farm for a very long time. What it would look like and where it was always changed with my mood and my age. I grew up in a rather rural setting in Southern Germany, and moved to the US after my mother married an American. For the past few years I've really yearned for a place to call my own. I have read every book out there on homesteading and have been a advid follower of www.coldantlerfarm.blogspot.com I've kept chickens in the city and helped shear sheep, I spinn and cook and bake, make soap and build furniture. I finally found a job that would cure me of my homesickness but also help me give back what I learned about my culture and my people and their traditions.

Every once and a while I would allow myself to day dream and I would log into Ebay and search for house in my price range. One day I ran across this add, and thought "wow, what a mess, but the price was right. So I read and re-read the Object discription and decided to call the Real Estate Agent and see what she had to say.

I found the Real Estate Agent to be super helpful and very knowledgeable about the property.. The house is situated in a tiny Village in the Bavarian Forest. Although I didn't know anything about the Bavarian Forest I knew I that the House matched what I had invisioned myself for the last 10 years or so.

So I let myself dream, And I tried to find out whether or not I could aford it, but it wasn't that much money so I knew that first off it would be a lot of work and secondly it would crazy at that price to overlook this gem. The house's ground floor is built of bricks and field stone ( I think originally it was hewn log beams as is the second story. The second story is made up of Oak Beams and the celing hight is about 7 feet. The downstairs is a more modern addition from the turn of the Century I think. Attached to the house with a door through the hallway is the the main barn with a smaller stall off of it. as well as a celler. The haybarn is attached to stall so that all the functions are under one roof. To the house also belongs a stone bakehouse which sits about 20 feet from the house across the Villages main street.

The Real Estate Adgent said that the house was in remarkable shape for its age, having been built between 1800-1820. The roof was in good shape and walls as well. I after our 2 hour telephone conversation I asked for a few more pictures and got to work trying to figure out my finances. After my bank turned me down mulipul times I was just about the give up. It had been a nice thought right? But maybe it wouldn't of been right for me anyway. Maybe it just wasn't ment to be, but then again how much of a mistake could it possible be? It was listed at 15,000 Euros but was selling for 9,900.00 Euros.  Well so I kept at it, after a while a friend decided that a Bank shouldn't have the right to trample on my dream, after all it wasn't any real amount of money. And after talking to her husband decided that he wanted to see this dream fulfilled, a mitzvah if you will.

Well there you have it, I had the money and the house hadn't sold so I made an offer of 8,500 euros and they countered with 9000 which is what I had decided was okay. After some back and forth we started the process which took from September to November before I had the lease in my hands. But now I have a farm. A real historic farm that hasn't had any updated changes since right after the WW2. No plumbing, no electicity, no heat.... I don't think I was as ready for it as I thought I was.
